Our director, Katrina Degel, is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, as well as NYU, with degrees in Music. All faculty members are accomplished musicians with decades of instrument experience, as well as a passion for teaching. Besides being experienced teachers, they are also active performers. Moreover, the instruments that they teach are their primary instruments. We are also the only school that performs both a Florida state background check as well as a nationwide background check.
Shining Star Music Academy adopts the practice of positive encouragement. Our friendly and patient instructors know how to engage students in a positive, fun and encouraging learning environment where they can enjoy and progress at their own pace.
Performing in public is a wonderful way for students to build confidence, motivate them, learn time-management, and share their musical expression with others. It is also a joyful time for parents and family to get to see the improvement and creativity of the student.
We organize two yearly recitals, as well as retirement home performances throughout the year. Our Spring Recital is in May, and our Fall Recital is in December.
We offer a free assessment meeting with our director before beginning lessons in order to ensure a great match of personalities between the student and instructor.
A school is only as good as its directors. Katrina Degel, our Founder and Director, is an accomplished voice, piano and guitar teacher, as well as performer. Her goal is to share the joy of music with others. Music lessons offer important life lessons such as discipline, preparation, and dealing with mistakes in a positive way. This company was founded when she could not take anymore of her own students, and saw a great need in our community for music education.
Katrina's 15 years of teaching experience, 20 years of performance experience, and prestigious music degrees have given her the ability to not only teach instruments to others, but also to teach and guide other teachers in being their best.
Each student is unique, as are their goals. Our lessons are uniquely designed to balance both students’ interests and fundamentals. Our goal is to motivate our students to love music and express themselves, as well as to teach technique and how to practice effectively.
While our competitors often have registration and recital fees, we do not. We also offer free shipping on books to be mailed to your door, and assist you with finding the best instrument for your needs.
We strive to meet your needs and the goals of the student. We work hard to answer your emails and texts quickly, and keep you up to date on the calendar events and how the student is progressing.
We offer a complimentary first lesson, where our director will meet with the student to assess his/her level and needs, and match them with a teacher. We also reach out to ensure everything is going well, and keep in communication throughout each semester.
"What a perfect match for my daughter. Her teaching has boosted my daughters confidence & spirit. Katrina is very patient & flexible, I highly recommend her!"
"I just had my first lesson with Katrina and I ALREADY know she's an amazing teacher, approachable, very knowledgable, and does an excellent job balancing explaining WHY I'm doing something, HOW to do it, and then DOING it. I'm excited to continue workings with her and got lucky to have found the right person the first time."
