Whether you are interested in playing around the campfire with friends, performing at your church or with a band, or playing classical guitar, we are here to help you!
Acoustic, Electric and Classical guitar are all specialties with our teachers. Our teachers are performers, as well as teachers, and can help you with any of your guitar goals!
Age 7 is a great age to begin guitar, thought students who wish to explore string instruments earlier (ages 5-7) may choose to play ukulele first.
Shining Star tailors guitar education to each student and level to ensure that, regardless of their age and experience, every student will have a fun, encouraging and educational experience!
Our teachers focus on:
Technique
Reading Notes
Rhythm Guitar (strumming)
Songs the student likes
We have seen first-hand how performance and performance preparation motivates and builds confidence in our students. We offer many performance opportunities throughout the year:
1. Spring Recital
2. Fall Recital
3. Retirement Home Performances
4. Group Zoom Practice Sessions at least bi-monthly
5. Group Recital Prep classes before each recital
Our Director, Katrina Mendez, has been teaching for nearly 20 years. She leads the teaching team in regular meetings, material review, and guidance throughout each semester. She hosts many of the group classes and the recitals as well.

"My son was curious about guitar and trying to learn on his own, but getting frustrated. After starting lessons, his teacher gave him the confidence and knowledge to keep with it, and continues to encourage him to explore songs on his own as well. I'm so ecstatic with the joy I see as my son plays with his teacher!"

You will need a guitar that fits the child - we recommend going to a local guitar store such as Hoggtown Music or Guitar Center to fit them to the correct size instrument.
Students will need picks, a strap, a tuner or tuner app. A music stand is also necessary.
A footstool may be desired to help the student find the best position for playing a classical or acoustic guitar.
