We have 3 events this Spring your student can attend in order to:
1. Community Performances in March
2. Formal Recitals in May
3. Music Mastery Festival in April
Scroll to read about each event and sign up below!

We invite our students to perform at local Assisted Living Facilities, outdoor spaces and malls several times a year! This is a casual performance for all levels and instruments and is meant to provide an easy way for students to get performance experience without the formality and stress of the usual recital. We love to share music with our community members, and they are so engaging as an audience!
Please reach us at hello@shiningstarmusicacademy.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Your teacher will help your student prepare a song to perform - anything from a scale or a lesson book song to a recital selection is just fine!
You will get emails from us when the sign up form is live - sign up quickly in case the spots fill up!
We will send you your assigned performance time a couple weeks before the event. Come dressed to impress with your music and instrument (other than piano and drums). Bring friends and family if you like!
All students of every level!

Students present 1 or 2 songs to friends and family in a performance that lasts 25-45 minutes on average. Students receive certificates as recognition for their hard work, and get the experience of performance in a more formal setting.
This performance happens ONCE PER YEAR - so sign up! The other performances we offer are more relaxed and focused on sharing music with an outside community such as in an Assisted Living Facility or an outdoor concert space.

Ask your teacher about their goals for the student, and let them know you have signed up the student for the recitals. The teacher will choose 1 or 2 songs with the student to be prepared for the recital. Encourage regular practice (at least 15 minutes 3 x per week, minimum).
Have the student play their selection for you if they are nervous, and even practice in front of friends and family to help get them accustomed to performing for others.
Attend the practice recitals when you can - they are so important for students to become comfortable with the space and make the recital a positive experience.
Memorization is not required for recitals.
All students of every level and experience.

Your instrument (unless you play piano or drums) and music.
We encourage students to dress their best, but their attire is up to you and them.
Join us for an annual event where students perform, take theory exams, and receive prizes and accolades for their hard work and achievements throughout the year.

Students will prepare 2 songs to perform for a judge at their assigned time - memorized or not. They will receive feedback and score on their performances.

Students will take an exam in theory and ear training in their level. They can study with their teachers and with our app to prepare for this.

Once finished with their exams, students will go to the grading table to receive their scores, certificates and medals/ribbons.

The top performers in each instrument and level will be invited to perform at a special recital!

Students are often motivated by performance goals. This performance has the added bonus of helpful critique by a professional musician adjudicator, a certificate of completion, a ribbon or medal earned, and an honors recital for our top performers.
No, the students don’t have to participate. We hope that you will choose to, as preparing for exams and performances help motivate most students.
Any student with Shining Star who is 5 years or older!
We will assign performance and exam times 1 to 2 weeks before the event. Performance times will be in 10 minute blocks and students must be on time or will lose their spot. Theory and Ear Training Exams will be held in groups by level and times assigned in the week before the event.
This recital is for the top performers in the Music Mastery Festival in each instrument and level. It is a special chance for the hard working students to shine! Location and time will be in the Student App. You will be notified after the assessments if you are invited to perform in this recital.
The recital is open to the public - anyone can attend!
Once you sign up, tell your teacher so they can prepare the student for the exams. You can find details on how to select songs in the handbook at the top of this webpage.
Theory and ear training study materials are sorted by level in your student app and students can practice during in between their lessons. You will have access to this by mid February in order to begin preparing.
Yes! Students can send in recorded videos of their performances for grading and assessment. The ear training/theory exam will not be available online this year.
